Description of Crabgrass (Digitaria spp.):
Crabgrass is a pervasive weed in the lawn. It's very noticable alongside regular green turf varieties due to the fact that it's yellowish to light green in color. It has an annoying habit of tillering and spreading low, also making it stand out and avoid being cut by a mower.
Pre-emergent herbicides are the only way to prevent crabgrass because it is spread by seed. This type of herbicide kills the young and weak plant as it tries to germinate. The seeds growing conditions are well known: when the soil temperature is 55 degrees or more for 4 to 5 consecutive days. If you put down a pre-emergent herbicide before then, you can beat the problem before it takes over the lawn.
If it has already emerged, an herbicide containing mesotrione is one of the only options to kill it and leave your regular grass unharmed.

Under certain conditions, Drive XLR8 application to annual grasses at 2-tiller and 4-tiller may not provide complete control.
