Earwigs are commonplace in folklore, but they do not burrow into your ears and lay eggs in your brain. They're easy to identify by their pincers on the butt of the insect. They can use the pincers offensively and defensively. They are only considered minor pests to the lawn because they feed on dead and decaying material--not living.

When earwigs are found in mulch, mix granules into the mulch layer. Place a 3-6 foot band of Talstar® XTRA Granular Insecticide STORAGE AND DISPOSAL Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal. Pesticide Storage Keep out of reach of children and animals. Store in original containers only. Store in a cool, dry place, preferably in a locked storage area and avoid excess heat. Carefully open containers. After partial use, close tightly. In case of spill, avoid contact, isolate area and keep out animals and unprotected persons. Confine spills.
