Description of Crane Flies (Tipulidae spp.):
Crane flies tend to be mistaken for the mosquito, but crane flies have much longer legs. They can grow up to 1.2 inches long and are harmless to people and plants. However, their larvae can grow up to 1.5 inches long and feet on the roots of the lawn which causes brown patches. Therefore, taking care of the adults will ultimately take care of future generations of crane flies.
