Description of Pythium Blight (Pythium aphanidermatum):
Pythium blight, also known as Cottony blight or Grease Spot, is a very destructive disease in turfgrass. It's particularly prone to show up if daytime temperatures exceed 82 degrees F and nighttime temperatures dip below 68 degrees F. The patches range from 0.4 to larger than 8 inches in diameter. The turf leaves feel greasy to the touch.
