Hello Everyone,
I'm thrilled to be here as an addition of the LawnDork community! I'm excited to turn the relatively neglected garden of my new house into a lawn that is green and lush since I recently moved here. But as a beginner at lawn maintenance, I need some advice from the professionals here.
I'll give you some context on my circumstances:
- Location: I live in the Midwest, so it gets hot in the summer and chilly in the winter.
- The yard is roughly 10,000 square feet in size.
- Present State: There are bare patches and a mixture of weeds in the uneven lawn. Some places of the soil appear compacted, while other portions appear sandy.
Since I've heard that early autumn is the ideal time to seed cool-season grasses, that's when I want to begin the project. But I'm not sure how to prepare the soil, choose the correct grass seed, and take care of the lawn after it's established.

These are some particular queries:
How should I prepare the soil for seeding? 🤔What are the correct procedures to take? 🤔Should I plough the soil, aerate it, or apply any particular amendments?🤔
Choose Your Seeds: Which kind of grass seed is best for the Midwest? Are there any particular mixes that work well in the sun or shade?🤔
Technique for Seeding: Which way performs best for uniformly dispersing seeds? If I were to utilise a broadcast spreader, how should I ccsp calibrate it?🤔
Maintenance: How should I water, mow, and fertilise my lawn to maintain a healthy lawn as the grass begins to grow?🤔
I would be grateful for any guidance, firsthand accounts, or product suggestions. I'm interested in hearing your success stories and professional advice!
